Our standard guided SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) tours take place on Saguaro Lake, a desert reservoir that transports visitors to the open southwest wilderness while being only a short drive from Metro Phoenix. The placid surface of the lake reflects the rugged backdrop of the Superstition Mountains, which display their turbulent geologic history in the jagged rocks and fissures of their dramatic landscape. Our friendly and knowledgeable guide staff will work with all skill levels from novice to veteran paddleboarders to provide an enjoyable experience for every guest.
We will begin by fitting all of our guests in life jackets, reviewing basic water safety procedures, and getting an on-shore overview of SUP use. We’ll then head to the water to learn how to successfully launch a SUP while kneeling, navigate away from shore, practice standing up on the board, and getting comfortable paddling and steering. When our group is ready, we’ll proceed out into open water to explore unique desert environment, take in the views of distant mountain ranges, and refine the art and sport of stand-up paddle boarding. There is a possibility of complete immersion, therefore properly secured footwear is required and a change of clothes is recommended for when participants return to shore.
For advanced SUP groups, trips may also take place on the Lower Salt River. Our more experienced participants will relish taking on the adventure of moving water while exploring the distinctive riparian environment of this desert oasis. Guides will provide additional instruction on navigating the slow moving river current. Our operations on Saguaro Lake and the Lower Salt River are authorized by permit from the Tonto National Forest.
