Take a guided kayak tour on the beginner‐friendly Lower Salt River or Saguaro Lake just outside Phoenix and Scottsdale. We use inflatable kayaks because they are stable and easy to maneuver, which makes it easy to enjoy splashing, relaxing, and wildlife viewing. The Sonoran Desert depends on its rivers and lakes to provide habitat for the diverse wildlife that call this area home, including wild horses and bald eagles, which we are often lucky enough to see during our tour! Your guides will give you advice on how to pilot your kayak downriver while sharing lots of interesting facts about the beautiful red cliffs, lush plantlife, and amazing landscape around.
All of our kayak tours take place on scenic, Class I rivers (the easiest rating on the international river difficulty scale) or lakes. All regularly scheduled guided trips are on the Lower Salt River or Saguaro Lake in the Tonto National Forest. These areas are excellent for viewing wildlife and are some of the best spots for bird watching in the Southwest. Water temperatures vary from the 60s in the winter to low 80s in the summer months. Swimming is possible year‐round but it can be a bit bracing in January! Tours can be arranged in the morning or afternoon and typically last about 4 hours.
